Epiphany is the day when Greek Cypriots believe that the mischievous ‘Kalikantzaroi’ or goblins that annoy Christians through the festive season can be banished by the making of loukoumades. Loukoumades are honey/syrup soaked donuts that are made and covered in crushed nuts or cinnamon sugar. The kallikantzaroi live underground and come to the surface during Christmas time.
