“Kathari Deftera,” Greek for Clean Monday, is considered to be one of the most important feasts all over Cyprus 🇨🇾 and Greece 🇬🇷, each year commencing the 40-day period of the Great Lent for the Eastern Greek Orthodox Church, which is called “Sarakosti.” The feast begins on the first day of the 7th week before the Orthodox Easter Sunday.
Liturgically though, Clean Monday and thus Lent itself begins on the preceding Sunday night, at a special service, in which all present will bow down before one another and ask for forgiveness. In this way, the faithful begin the Great Lent with a clean conscience, forgiveness and renewed Christian love.
Clean Monday also puts an end to the preceding Carnival celebrations, inviting all Orthodox Christians to leave behind the sinful attitudes associated with Carnival festivities and non-fasting foods, which were largely consumed during the three weeks of the Carnival.
As a result, the feast, which is a public holiday in Greece #🇬🇷 and Cyprus #🇨🇾, is celebrated with outdoor excursions, the consumption of shellfish #🦑 and other fasting foods #🥦🥕, as well as the widespread custom of building and flying kites

Кстати, на фото обалденный местный ресторан со свежей рыбой и морепродуктами. Интерьер мегапростой, но еда стоит того и все местные ходят именно сюда 👌🏻 а это всегда показатель.

Ocean basket - это своего рода уже традиционная кипрская еда.
Этот ресторанчик любят за большие порции и свежие морепродукты в разных вариациях.
Что есть?
Как только мы зашли на столе сразу же оказался свежий хлеб и закуски для него: масло; чесночное масло; закуска из перца; и ещё закуска из Микса овощей.
Это вам подаётся пока вы думаете,что заказать и ждёте свой заказ 👆🏼
Мы на двоих Заказали мезе и сковородочку с креветками и мидиями в чесночном соусе 👆🏼
Мезе- это набор маленьких блюд, которые могут быть горячими/холодными/солеными или миллион других вариаций. 🥘 В наше мезе входило:
1. Сыр холуми свежий
2. И сыр в кляре;
3. осьминоги в кляре; 4.кальмары в кляре;
5. свежие овощи;
6. набор соусов к ним;
Сытно,не правда ли?
Но чтобы окончательно наесться мы взяли сковородочку с креветками,мидиями и картошкой на гарнир.
И это первый отзыв,где я не буду говорить частицу «но»! Вкусно, ребята!

Fish meze is a must in Cyprus. One of our favourite spots for fresh seafood is a seafront restaurant in Protaras. The serving of the mezes flows so well.
