In 1928, on realizing that holidaying in the mountains was gaining popularity among tourists, especially the English, Mr Kokkalos, a resident of Prodomos village built the hotel Berengaria. Using his savings and what he gathered from friends, he invested in the construction of the royal hotel. In 1931, the Berengaria Hotel opened its doors. For 53 years, the hotel remained a haven for royals and other titled guests. Pharouk, the King of Egypt, a president of Israel, among other notable businessmen of the time, were guests at the hotel. The hotel’s casino, night club, state of the art furniture, attracted both locals and international visitors. All this stopped in 1984. The stone structure of the hotel, which was named after the wife of King Richard the Lionheart, was till now a vacant space. In 2020 @bbf.cyprus purchases Berengaria and is now investing big money in restoring the hotel to its original glory. The hotel’s heritage has been honored by completely restoring its structure and preserving its natural beauty. The forthcoming phase involves constructing the hotel using contemporary methods, ensuring the preservation of the natural surroundings and always prioritizing nature. With projected Opening date in late 2026, the Berengaria hotel will have 28 rooms, 4 suites and 12 villas surrounding the hotel. A world class spa is one of the new services it will provide with the complete restructure of the pool areas and restaurants. Last weekend, we had the pleasure of staying at Petit Palais Boutique Hotel in Platres and we were impressed by the amazing views, friendly staff and delicious dinner at the hotel's restaurant! The portions were huge and everything was prepared using fresh locally-sourced ingredients. We started our dinner with the Blood Orange Halloumi Quinoa salad and the Petit Palais salad; both were flavorful and refreshing, but the blood orange/halloumi combo was our absolute favorite! For our main course we had the half chargrilled chicken and the grilled pork chops, which were both perfectly cooked. Of course we couldn't resist dessert and opted for the classic millefeuille, which was the perfect way to end our meal. The homemade orange pie also looked divine, but we were so full that we had to postpone till our next visit! We were lucky enough to visit on one of the nights featuring live music, which was a really nice touch and made us enjoy our dinner even more! Extraordinary food at a extraordinary hotel located at Platres in the Troodos mountains. @petitpalais_platres was entirely renovated just before covid happened. Its categorised as a boutique hotel and deserves that title. The food is beyond the standard menu you find in villages. They have an in-house pastry chef and I strongly advise to try the Portokalopitta, Tiramisu, Banoffee & Chocolate cake 🤣 Ok all of them! The idea of a traditional brunch place in a village in the mountains is just amazing! To Mpakaliko tou Hapsi is a modern spin of a traditional coffee shop where they serve an “As Cypriot as it gets” breakfast, which we absolutely loved. 🍳 Unfortunately there is a but part, as we didn’t have the best experience with the service. Getting the order wrong and then having to wait for almost an hour to get a dish, without being properly informed of what was going on, was such a disappointment. 🤦🏼‍♀ We are positive though that you can do much better than this and we are rooting for you, as we really like your idea of promoting the Cypriot version of brunch.
